GreenThumb, an initiative of NYC’s Dept. of Parks & Recreation, and the largest community gardening program in the nation, recently held its annual GrowTogether T-Shirt Design Contest.

This year’s “Designer Award” winner was Clinton Community Garden’s own Ruth Martinez!

Says Ruth, about her winning design:

“I have always been interested in animals, art, and agriculture, so I hope my drawing will call attention to things we need to do with gardens, to keep them & maintain them.  And don’t forget about the wildlife in there.  That is the reason I included a bee, and an earthworm, and some birds.  We need to work together with them so we can protect and maintain them, because they help to grow food that we need to eat and keep us healthy. “

This marks the second time that Ruth has won the award. Here is her 2004 winning entry:

Congratulations, Ruth!
